for the love of sewing…. what we did over the weekend…..
February 22nd, 2010Remember back when…
February 20th, 2010If we were making a embroidered dress like this it was all done by hand & took months to complete?
This dress is actually a quick and easy project! It is done using an embroidery collection by Custom Keepsakes. The embroidery machine actually sews out the collar, yoke, sleeves, etc. with the outline of where you are going to cut and then all you have to do is put it together! Soooo Easy! We used DMC 50 wt. thread to get the softer finish with the antique look. It doesn’t have the shine on it that is normally desired with machine embroidery. The designs are exquisite. The bottom of the dress uses a design that is continuously connected around the skirt. And from a girl who used to have to wear these dresses…. they are finished with the seams all enclosed so NO Scratchy seams! WooooHooo! This is the dress that Lily will be wearing this Easter. We used organza for the top layer and a lavender pima batiste underlay for the shadow look.
About those feet…..
February 17th, 2010Bernina offers many feet to make your sewing and quilting projects EASIER!! Our new FEETURE display will teach you about the features and benefits of many different Bernina Feet. Currently we are displaying Foot #38, the bi-level base of this foot is ideal for sewing situations where one side of the presser foot must ride over mulitple thicknesses and the other side over a single layer. Come and check out the samples; flat-felled seams, inserting mini piping into seam, sewing on hook and loop tape, and applying braid and trims to fabrics.
Posh Poodle Quilt – FINISHED
February 17th, 2010Diane has finished this adorable quilt… the kits are ready to go. Her tips and tricks include using Steam-a-seam 2 as a “pattern”, finger pressing the Steam-a-seam to the applique, cutting it out,  NOT ironing it down and removing it (to use again) and using Roxanne’s Glue Baste it to temporarily put it on the background (GREAT IDEA Diane!!)  She used her Bernina Foot #20, the open embroidery foot, to stitch down the designs and her walking foot to machine quilt her project. Diane used Minkee for the back of the quilt and prefers to do minimal machine quilting on Minkee! This is a fun project.
