What is a flat felled seam?? I am so glad you asked! It is a reinforced decorative seam that is totally enclosed on both right and wrong sides of the garment, making it a good choice for reversible garments. It is also what I call a “jeans seam”. This is also a great seam for home dec projects and bags. Just follow along and you will have very professional looking seams!
Step 1:Â Sew seam at 5/8 of an inch. WAIT…..Wrong sides together!!!
Step 2:Â Press both sides to the one side.
Step 3:Â Trim away the seam allowance on the bottom.
Step 4: Turn seam allowance under and press down. This is the step that makes it decorative, enclosed, reversible and very sturdy. Awesome.
Step 5:Â Now, stitch down the edge you have just pressed.
Is that not the coolest?? And how easy was that?
The BERNINA Foot #38 will make your sewing even easier! The bi-level base of this foot is ideal for sewing where one side of the presser foot must ride over muliple thicknesses and the other side over a single layer. Perfect for flat felled seams, attaching braid and attaching hook and loop tape.
Have fun sewing!!
Bernina offers many feet to make your sewing and quilting projects EASIER!! Our new FEETURE display will teach you about the features and benefits of many different Bernina Feet.
