What? You don’t know what BU (short for Bernina University) is?  Let us explain: imagine meeting all the other dealers, instructors across the USA and Canada to see and learn all the newest Bernina models, feet, embroideries and more!

Let’s just say, they are all having a great time in our Nation’s capital!

Jessica has been sending us some tid-bits of information to share with our customers, with pictures.  We’ll share a few things each day this week, until they get back with the goods!

Welcome to the family, Bernina’s newest embroidery machine, the 750!

The new 750 is comparable to the 440QE.  It come with a larger bobbin, 10″ throat space and the option with or without embroidery!

Cut 2.5″ x WOF, strips of multicolored fabrics. I started with 60 strips of various Art Gallery fabric and 60 strips of white fabric (I used a MODA pre-cut  jelly roll strips of all white)

Once your strips are cut, sew one white strip on either side of one colored strip, then sew a colored strip on either side of one white strip… press… seams towards the colored strips…

Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew the set of three strips together… (2 sets of three strips)… Place sets of three strips together, right sides together and sew down both sides…

Using a 12×12 square, creative grid, line up the diagonal center line of the grid with 1/4″ stitch line and cut diagonally… slide the grid and line up points and cut on the other diagonal…

Repeat until strip are completely cut… you should have 6 triangles… Unfold and press the small block…

Piece your squares together with matching fabrics or piece the squares together with unlike fabrics for a more scrappy look (this is what I did with the sample pictured)

Continue adding large squares until you have your desired size…

Hello everyone! When I was asked to post on Gina’s blog, I thought to myself, what will I say? Well here goes… I think a blog should include useful information and fun facts… about sewing, of course. Hopefully after reading our blog, you will feel closer to us. We are all avid sewers (obviously) and truly enjoy helping our customers and those of you out in cyber world with your sewing questions and needs.

I want to share with you some of my favorite patterns. I will start with the Chic Mademoiselle by Carina Gardner. Check out this picture of Laurel modeling this awesome top, too cute! This top is perfect for the older girl, the pattern includes sizes XS (2/3T) to an XXL (10). I made one for a 10 year old, third grader, she wore it to school and loved it. For those of you with ten year olds, you know this is HUGE!

Just Arrived….. Laminated Dr. Suess Fabric! Great for raincoats, totes, tablecloths for classrooms and toy rooms, or put under highchairs to catch the spills! It’s washable too.

We have a fabulous selection of laminated fabrics… not just for kids. One of our customers used it on the back of a quilt for an outdoor quilt when the grass is a bit wet! Great idea!!

You really should not miss Betty’s classes on the Avalon Jacket and Insa Skirt! Wouldn’t your sweet girl in your life feel like a princess in this outfit? It is really an easy outfit to sew and Betty teaches you how to make it look like a one of a kind with fun trims and embellishments. Betty is truly a sewing professional, you will love her classes!

Pat’s new series, Home Dec 101 will teach you basics of making pillows, using cording, inserting a zipper and making these cool placemats. Isn’t the fabric awesome? It’s new from Free Spirit.

If you did not have a chance to meet our teachers at our recent “Meet the Teacher” Event, we would like to introduce them to you virtually. Our teacher event was a lot of  FUN and please join us the next time.

Toni specializes in the quilting classes. Check out her many classes in our schedule, piecing techniques, color, fabric pottery, and t-shirt quilts to name a few!

Pat teaches clothing construction. Her Sewing for Children Series has been very popular. Pat has added Home Dec and Serger classes this year too.

Marialice is a licensed Martha Pullen Instructor and specialized in heirloom sewing and heirloom sewing in the embroidery hoop! Her samples are just precious, come in and see them.

Monday Nights with Mary…. what can I say but…. FUN FUN FUN.  Lots of different fun outfits you can complete in one evening.

Sue is teaching 2 bags this spring. The Serenity Shoulder bag and the Mail Sack. Sue has an excellent method of teaching, so if bags intimidate you, take her classes. You will be well on your way to making more than one!!

Reeta is teaching the Professional Tote. Everyone is crazy about this tote!!

Sherri is back teaching Raw Edge Applique and has added a new class for paper piecing.  Stunning workmanship, and she will teach you her tricks!!

And of course there is Kathy… pictured at the machine in a Mastery Class. Not only does she teach our guide classes, she also teaches her expertise in the free-motion quilting world with a basic class and and an advanced series. She will also be teaching classes specifically for the 830′s.
