Need to get a baby quilt done in a jiffy? You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to finish a “quilt as you go” strip quilt using just a few fabrics. You’ll also learn how to use fusible thread for a beautiful machine binding - and should be close to finishing in class. Consider a flannel back for a modern and soft quilt for baby!
Supplies:
Sewing machine (don’t forget your power cord and foot pedal)
Machine Supplies:
A regular stitch plate that allows for a zig-zag stitch
A quilting foot (#37 or #57 for Bernina – also known as a ¼” foot with guide)
A zig zag stitch foot (a #0 or #1 for Bernina, although clear foot #34 works great)
I highly recommend a walking foot if you have it
Basic sewing supplies, including thread snips and size 12 machine needles
Rotary cutter and favorite rulers (cutting mats and some rulers available)
Fabric i. Four coordinating half yards in baby quilt colors (non-directional preferred)
1 yard coordinating backing – consider flannel for a baby quilt
½ yard coordinating binding OR you can use leftover fabric from the half yards to make a scrappy binding
Batting – medium or lightweight batting at least 30” x 40”
The Quilters Dream Cotton Request or Select craft size batting the Gina’s Bernina carries works perfectly
Thread:
i. One spool of 50 wt cotton thread (Mettler works well) in a neutral color to go with fabric (such as light gray)
ii. One spool of 50 wt thread to coordinate with binding
iii. One spool of fusible thread and extra bobbin
(The Superior “Charlotte’s Fusible Web” that Gina’s Bernina carries works well)
Optional: Walking Foot with both ¼” and edgestitch foot; and a ¼” Foot with guide are very helpful!
