Mitered Corner Placemats

Custom sewn placemats make the perfect addition to your kitchen table, or a delightful gift for friends and family!  Dig through your fat quarter stash to make a custom placemat, or bring some yardage (one yard each of non-directional outer border and lining fabric) to make a set of four.  Consider holiday or children themed fabrics to make as gifts.  You can even bring extra yardage to make matching napkins. 


Basic Supplies Sewing Machine (don’t forget your power cord and foot pedal)
Basic Sewing Supplies Rotary Cutter, Ruler, Cutting Mat Sharp Dressmaker Scissors and Thread Snips
Thread to match mitered border fabric Supplies for Placemats (to make four placemats)
Border Fabric – 1 yard non-directional fabric Inner Focus Fabric – 1 yard non-directional fabric
Crib Size cotton or cotton blend batting

NOTE: Each placemat requires a 16 x 21” fabric piece for outer border, and an (approx.) 11 x 16” inner piece

Supplies for Dinner Napkins (to make four napkins)
Border Fabric – 1 ¼ yard non-directional fabric Inner Focus Fabric – 1 yard non-directional fabric NOTE: Each napkin requires a 21” fabric piece for outer border, and an (approx.) 16” inner piece

Notes to Make Extra Napkins
 If you’d like to make 6 placemats AND 6 coordinating napkins you would need a total of 3 1/4 yards of non-directional fabric for the outer borders and 3 yards for the inner focus fabric (you may be able to get away with less if you cut very carefully).
Don't forget extra batting for the placemats (none needed for the napkins).
