Basic T-Shirt Class

Learn to sew a classic knit t-shirt using your serger/overlocker. In this class, we will cut out and construct your shirt using a professional PDF pattern.

Machine Requirements

• Overlocker/Serger — cleaned and threaded  Test the overlock stitch before class 

• Bring all tools, accessories, and standard presser feet

• Needles:

  • Stretch needles 80/12 for serging

  • ELx705 SUK for cover stitch

Fabric

• Knit fabric (preferably 95% cotton / 5% spandex)

• Must stretch horizontally

• Check your pattern for yardage

• Pre-wash and dry before class

Thread

• Four cones of serger thread to match fabric

• If using cover stitch: stretch thread for looper (ex: Maxi-Lock Stretch)

Scissors • Pins • Seam ripper • Wonder clips • Marking tool
Rotary cutter & ruler • Heat-resistant pins (for hems)
SewKeys E Knit Stay Tape (½" extremely fine fusible)
Pattern tracing medium (Pattern Ease)  • Any favorite notions

Pre-Class Preparation (Required)

Please complete before class:

1. Purchase and download your chosen PDF pattern.

2. Print test square page first — confirm it measures exactly 1".

3. Print remaining pages and tape together.

4. Trace your size.

5. Print sewing instructions.

6. Pre-wash and dry fabric.

If you run into printing issues, a master copy will be available in class for tracing
