Edge to Edge Quilting  On Your Embroidery Machine

Please make sure to read all the way through these instructions. There is some prep work that needs to be done prior to class. Make sure to get this done so you don't get behind. If you have any questions, please call Gina's at 629-202-4381.

 Book:  Edge to Edge Quilting on Your Embroidery Machine, SECOND EDITION by Amelie Scott Designs

Quilting Files: 

In the back of your book on Page 24 are step-by-step instructions for downloading the Quilting Files, using the serial number provided in your book.  Follow these instructions for registering your product to obtain the quilting files.

From the download, copy the files labeled 1 - Machine Files to a USB stick and bring it to class.

Machine Requirements:

Bernina Sewing Machine and the Embroidery Module that is up to date on firmware.
Straight Stitch Throat Plate
Slide on Tray Table
Foot #26 Embroidery Foot

 Hoop Sizes and Hoop Templates:

A Hoop with at least 5.5” x 9.5” is required to stitch out these designs.

(Mega, Maxi, Jumbo, Giant will work.)

 **Bring your largest hoop possible and the template that comes with your hoop. **

If you own a Large Magnetic Hoop, bring that!  You will enjoy using this one.

Fabrics:

Best to choose inexpensive solid color fabrics since we are just learning the technique.

Quilt Top – 28” x 28”

Quilt Back – 38” x 38”

Batting – 38” x 38” (low-loft recommended)

Extra 1/2 yd. of fabric (can use muslin or Pattern Ease) to make Stitching Templates

Needle:

80 or 90 Top Stitch Needle

Thread:

We will use the same thread in both top and bobbin.

(Isacord is a good choice.)

Choose a color that you can see well when stitched on your fabric. 

Notions:

Favorite Fabric Marking Pen

Small Ruler (1.5” x 6”) or similar

Large Ruler (6.5” x 24”)

Extra Bobbins

Tweezers

OESD Embroidery Tape

505 Basting Spray or Quilter’s Select Free Fuse Powder

Paper/Notebook to take notes

Basic Sewing Supplies:  Scissors, thread snips, pins, seam ripper, Purple Thang, etc.  Bring your favorite tools you like to use while sewing.

Pre-Class Instructions:

1.    Make a quilt sandwich by layering and centering the Quilt Top (Right Side Up) on top of the Batting and Backing Fabric (Right Side Down).   See cutting dimensions above under Fabrics Heading. 

2.    Spray the layers with 505 Spray or use Quilter’s Select Free Fuse Powder according to directions to keep the layers bonded together and       bring to class. 

3.    Wind a couple of bobbins with the thread you plan to use.

4.    Remember to bring your USB with quilting designs on it.
